Bed Bugs Vs Carpet Beetle

A carpet beetle is very different from a bed bug in appearance.

They are scaly and the bite they can leave will look similar to a bed bug. Bed bugs need a diet of blood to survive and breed throughout their development stages. For those of you who are a little bit more impatient i ll say that there are 5 main differences between carpet beetles and bed bugs. A major difference between bed bugs and carpet beetles is their diet.

Bed bugs and carpet beetles are both very small. Bed bug larvae look like little worms while carpet beetle larvae look like fuzzy bugs with little spines all over them. The carpet beetle and bed bug not only leave similar looking bites but there are other similarities. Carpet beetles are also generally smaller than bed bugs about inch and they differ in color from black to varied patterns of brown orange yellow and white.

They are usually smaller and are about an 1 8 of an inch in length fully grown. Bed bugs are bigger and have flat bodies than bed bugs. Bed bugs eat human blood and carpet beetle larvae feed on wool and animal based materials. Bed bugs feed on your blood and cause damage to your skin while beetles only cause to damage your belongings.

However the carpet beetle is the smallest of the two and averages 1 8th of an inch in length while the bed bug is about 1 4th of an inch long. Varied carpet beetles do have brown on their backs but they look more spotted or striped with white and light colored patches mixed with brown.
